About Kaji, Suhara & Associates

As intellectual property rights (patents, utility models, designs, trademarks, etc.) become ever more important, it is not uncommon for a single intellectual property right to have an enormous influence on a business.
The globalised economy also increases the importance of acquiring and utilising intellectual property rights both inside and outside the country where businesses are headquartered.
Kaji, Suhara and Associates is a comprehensive intellectual property law firm dedicated to providing our clients, both within Japan and overseas, with top-class IP related services ever since our establishment in 1988.

Our Policy for Sustainability

We, Kaji, Suhara & Associates greatly value our customers and business partners. Our goal is to be a legal support provider with expert knowledge on domestic and foreign laws and international treaties, contributing to the developments of new technical and corporate values in Japan and other countries.
For achieving a better and sustainable society, we are actively pursuing diversity and flexible work styles through various supports for women empowerment and remote working.
We will fulfill our social responsibilities together with our customers and business partners.

Our Commitment

01. Substantial interview with inventors

An interview is one of the most effective ways of accurately and efficiently understanding the intention of an inventor. We interview inventors not only to understand their thinking, but also to help them turn what they have created into what can be legally recognized as ‘an invention’.
Our professionals also provide practical and strategic advice regarding IP applications, based on the needs of each client.

02. Training of staff members

Learning how to perform the core tasks of an IP law firm, such as the preparation of application documents and the handling of intermediate procedures, at the level of quality we expect from our staff, is a long process. We therefore spend a substantial amount of time on the training of each of our new staff members. It is our belief that such a staff training program, though it requires a considerable amount of time and energy, is indispensable for maintaining our quality standards and our reputation with our clients.
Our firm also holds regular in-house workshops, run by case law study groups or by attorneys visiting from our overseas associates, to keep our staff members updated on the latest developments in IP law.

03. Support for Small and medium-sized companies

To date, nearly 90% of Japanese inventions are made by researchers from large companies, which often have their own IP departments responsible for the management and protection of their intellectual property rights.
This, however, is not the case for many small and medium-sized companies. Due to a lack of IP personnel, valuable inventions made by small and medium-sized companies may be left unprotected.
Our professionals are well aware of the needs of companies in this situation and provide comprehensive support through the entire procedure of rights protection from finding through to utilization
